Why it's ok to feel lost

Why it's ok to feel lost

Life is quite strange in many ways. People around us live on the same planet but experience different versions of it. Some may be experiencing loss, love, marriage, death, trauma and so forth. We all live on earth but have different feelings towards the life we live. One thing for certain is that we all experience the feeling of being lost at one point.

This blog post will explain the normality of feeling lost in life. It'll make you feel more human, more normal, and more grounded. It may even inspire you to make a change—to work on that project, you've been holding off on or text that special someone you've been withholding from doing so.

Different versions of life

We all live on this floating rock in the middle of space with no certainty of how we actually got here. We may have a religion we follow that explains the beginning of the earth, or we may just be going with the vibe of things. Either way, we find ourselves questioning our existence and reasoning for being here.

Some of us are experiencing the best part of life, whilst others are not so much.

You may be in between this and feel simply lost.

Your life experience shapes your perspective and outlook on things. It may make you see things differently, such as love, children, work and more. This can feel quite isolating as no two people view the world the same. We all have our own outlook and opinions. This isolating feeling can leave us lost, uncertain and demotivated to strive for the better things in life.

As we all see the wonders of life so differently, this isolating, lost feeling is normal. It's how we act on feeling lost that differentiates us. Some may feel lost and go for a run, talk to loved ones, search on Google for the answers to this feeling, or they may just shy away and dwell on this feeling of being lost.

Embracing the strangeness of life

The feeling of being lost is uncomfortable, yet it has a beauty to it. Feeling lost is a sign of growth. If we were content and comfortable doing what we were doing in life, that would mean we were not looking for a change.

Change is scary and an uncomfortable feeling. It means doing the opposite of what we currently are doing. Sacrificing free time or making a big change to our circumstances. The beauty is that we want to do better for ourselves. We notice the current job role we are in is no longer benefiting us. We notice the relationship we strive to make work is toxic and unkind to our mental health. We notice the bad and strive for the better. We work on bettering ourselves to live a healthier life. Our goals may vary for this change. Maybe we want to better ourselves in different areas of life, whether that be our mental health, physical health, career, relationship, addictions or habits. It's the ultimate goal of striving for a change that unites us.

You might be unsure of where to start with this change, but it all begins with setting a goal.

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help overcome feeling lost :

What areas of your life do you feel need fulfilling?

What do you want to improve in life?

What makes you feel fulfilled?

How would overcoming feeling lost in life benefit you?

What advice would you give someone who is feeling lost right now?

How do you cope with people living vastly different lives around you compared to your own?

What's a lesson you have learnt from feeling lost?

Do you feel like the feeling of being lost is an opportunity for growth or more of a setback? Why?

These questions can be journaled down, answered in the comments or answered mentally. The questions have been asked to open your mind to a different perspective and allow you to embrace the feeling of being lost in life.

Ultimately, feeling lost is a universal feeling. It is what makes us realise our ambition to strive for better. It makes us realise we want to change. It opens us up to wanting better for ourselves. We come to a realisation that the current situation or circumstances we are in are not giving us room for growth or bettering ourselves.

Essentially, it allows us to seek more from our circumstances and improve ourselves.
